Unjunk your Diet™ basics is really getting back to eating clean. Eating clean is eating foods in their most natural state possible. This includes eating whole grains, lean meats, and fresh fruits and vegetables – all organic and locally grown if possible.
Eating clean isn’t just healthy eating. I hear so many people say “I eat healthy, see I’m having my “fat free”, “low carb” this or that for snacks and my Lean Cuisine for lunch” pfsh….please THAT is NOT eating clean. These are chemical filled foods altered by food companies and branded to be healthy – you deserve better – your body deserves better! This program will teach you how to see through those marketing tricks.
Of course we can’t eat clean this way all the time, but it’s making the conscious effort to think about the foods you eat and choosing the healthy options as much as possible. We personally follow the 80/20 rule. We eat clean and unjunked 80% of the time for sure and then allow ourselves 20% to splurge and not stress out over it. Don’t beat yourself up if you slip up – it happens. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about getting healthy and feeling great long term, even if that means baby steps.
I get it! And trust me, I’ve been there, done that. There are so many potential obstacles to long-term health: poor food choices, excess weight and the aging process just to name a few! It’s so important to make sure that your body has the right nutrients in the right amounts to support optimum health. A balanced diet, regular exercise and proper nutritional supplementation are the first steps to creating a healthier, more vibrant life {aka, unjunking your diet}.
We all know that eating the right foods in a balanced diet leads to good health. In an ideal world a well-balanced and clean diet would require no supplements. We’d be able to get all of the nutrients we need through the foods that we eat. Unfortunately for a number of reasons, we just aren’t getting all the nutrients we need on a daily basis. For this reason {and many more}, I am a firm believer that nutritional supplements are vital to fill in the gaps. I’ve researched so many supplements out on the market so I’ve done the legwork for you. I’ve partnered with the #1 Natural Nutrition Company in the US and only recommend their supplements. Another post will go more into those details and what I recommend, but stay tuned!
Where Do You Start?
You can do the cold turkey method, which is cleaning out your pantry, fridge and freezer of all junky foods right this second and never look back, but that can be drastic and quite frankly expensive and hard to do, however if this works for you, go for it. I personally recommend you clean up your diet slowly over a period of time. My Unjunk your Diet Program really goes into this on a weekly basis, but here are the top 3 ways to start now:
- Stock up on clean eats {fresh organic fruits & veggies, less processed boxed foods} and as you use up junky products replace with clean ones. So when you run out of ketchup, replace with an organic cleaner version like Muir Glenn Organic Ketchup – it’s the best in my opinion.
- Follow the Top Rules for Eating Clean, but don’t freak out start with one thing and then add on the next day or week or month. Remember this is about making changes that last, so keep it simple.
- Make meals from scratch. By making meals from scratch you immediately control the ingredients. Don’t get me wrong there are some great pre made things out there that are getting closer to unprocessed, but 99% of the pre made stuff has some kind of extra ingredients, preservatives, artificial flavors & sweeteners or even extra sugar. You can make your own pasta sauce so easily that there really isn’t a need for a jar of sauce.
Now it’s your turn!
